I have the pleasure of photographing Janet and Michael’s wedding this September, but first we got to spend a little time getting to know each other during their family portrait session at Red Wing Park in Virginia Beach, VA. Both Janet and Michael were great to work with – just laid back, casual, and up for anything. They have a teenage son – a kid who really enjoys his YouTube videos. I asked him to tell me about his favorite ones so that I could get some genuine smiles while we were working together. I think it worked out well and I got to know a little more about him, too. They also have an adorable little girl, who was shy most of the time, until the end of the session after she warmed up to me. I was surprised that the best “looks” I got from her were when the F-18 jets flew over the park because she would look up to the sky and just have this look of wonder in her eyes.

I’m looking forward to working with them again on their wedding day. Please be sure to leave a comment below or share this post in your social media!

P.S.
On a side note, Red Wing park has become quite popular for photographers over the years. I don’t know if it’s the infamous red bridge in the Japanese garden or the groves of trees which line the road, but every time I go to this park there’s always at least one other photographer there with a family, or for a maternity session, and even senior portraits. Nevertheless, I was “the other photographer” to another photographer’s session that day – LOL! I just work around the other photographers and use different parts of the park anyway, so it’s no big deal.
