Growing up in the south, Brittaneay first told me that she wanted a rustic feel for her maternity portraits. I told her I knew the perfect location so I took her to the Triple R Ranch in Chesapeake, VA. When we first started the session, I asked her if she had been professionally photographed before and she told me that she had done some modeling in the past. That’s music to a photographer’s ears because she understands what it takes to create a unique portrait and she probably has a few poses up her sleeves – which makes my job just a little easier. The pictures from the session turned out amazing and I had a lot of fun coming up with some creative lighting and locations for this shoot. Be sure to watch the slideshow below (full screen @ 720p looks great)!

One of the funniest moments during our shoot came just after shooting the picture of the hallway. A group of girls from Kempsville High School were there on a retreat. As they passed by, they stopped to look at Brittaneay and simultaneously shouted, “CONGRATULATIONS!!!” It was completely unexpected, and I think it made her feel awkward special for a brief moment.

I had to get special permission from Triple R Ranch to work on their property because they’re always hosting some kind of group or retreat, and even though the fee to shoot there was $25, it was worth every penny!
