Courtney & Derrick had a beautiful ceremony at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Surrounded by their family and friends, they celebrated their marriage by having a vow renewal to reaffirm their commitment to their love and to each other.

They took a few minutes before the ceremony to do a quick first look. William (from Pro Look Media) and I decided to take them up to the top of the Convention Center where it overlooks the city. Little did we know that Derrick wasn’t too fond of heights. But he’s a real trooper and he stayed up there to meet his bride and spend a few quiet moments together before the wedding, and I think it was totally worth it!

After the ceremony, we took the standard altar shots and then Courtney was like, “I want to take pictures out in the street!” What photographer would say no to that?! I love playing in traffic, when it’s safe to do so of course. So we lined up the wedding party in the middle of the road and I laid down to get a super-low shot of the group. Once again: totally worth it!

The reception was the most fun of the night, which started out with the first dance and after dinner, instead of the traditional father-daughter / mother-son dances, they got the whole family on the dance floor and performed their own choreographed number together! It just took off from there with all the guests joining the party and having a great time. For me, the night ended when DJ Stretch had 5 guys sing out to 5 ladies, all sitting pretty in their chairs while they were serenaded but the dashing gents. My time was up after that, but I’m sure the rest of the night was just as much fun.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your wedding, Courtney & Derrick! Congratulations and I wish you many happy years of marriage!
